Review on Philips MRV640 Magnavox DVD Recorder by Chase Dunn

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Not bad for a first time!

Well I waited a long time before I started recording to DVD and used a VCR for years because I got tired of those house sized tapes. So I finally bought this item from Best Buy at a pretty good price and I'm happy with it. For everyone who goes - What the heck are all those DVD+-_!@#$%^&**()": <>?R's?I hate that shit too. But all you have to do is buy a DVD+R in any store and they should work - JUST REMEMBER THAT ONLY WORKS ON DVD+R AND DVD+RW - IT'S REALLY EASY AND IT'S ALWAYS READ IN CAPITALS ON THE BOX/CASE/THE NOTHING I read the previous review and I haven't had this kind of problem yet.Although it froze once and I had to turn it off once to reset it or whatever. If you understand it's like a computer and like a Computer freezes then it's no big deal I only bought 1 DVD+R set from Memorex and they worked perfectly And yes you can record it all on a VCR And if you also have a VCR and Gigantic VCR tapes and want to permanently transfer them to a digital format, p You do this with ease (if you need help, don't hesitate to ask). An unusual machine with fairly user-friendly controls (except that Phil guy! What the heck!) I record all my individual shows (Seinfeld, JJudy, 60 minutes) onto my DVD+RW that came with it, and I record and erase them - just like on Tape. And it says you need to finalize your DVD+Rs to play on most DVD players (you can't finalize DVD+RWs), but I've tried playing unfinalized DVD+RWs on my cheap AMD DVD player play and it played! I record in the lowest quality that suits me and get 8 hours of recording time per disc. This thing has 6 recording settings so you can adjust the quality accordingly: M1 for the highest quality (1 hour) and M8 (8 hours) . Recording. DON'T FEAR _______________________________________________________ STILL STRONG This is the 2nd review Well I've had this thing for about 5 months now and am happy with it. I still can't believe everything that has happened to other reviewers, but maybe some of those DVD recorders were just a lemon. I've never had any issues with the hard drive warning, had to reset it once, and most other issues never happened either. If it is discontinued I think this review will be moot, but I want to protect the reputation of this one. Anyway, I've recorded hundreds of shows on the Imation DVD+R and the one that came with the Memorex DVD+RW recently stopped too play and record. But after recording dozens of favorites. If you still find them new you can't beat the price - highly recommend! You must remember that you cannot expect perfection from the lowest DVD recorders! But now it's close and I'm still content.
