Good for some things

I've had this unit for about a month and haven't had any hardware/operational problems. I use it to record via analog cable and found the 3 hour recording speed looked identical to the source material. I record with Memorex +RWs which work great and play great on my Samsung DVD player. I'm using a non-original remote control, so I can't vouch for the one that came with it. The OSD menu is pretty easy to master and the user manual has the information you need. Please note that this device does…

Good, but not good enough

Designers have foolishly abandoned the fast forward and rewind buttons that are standard on most designs. A few days later, I finally figured out that to browse the DVD, you have to hold down the chapter forward/backward buttons. The manual is difficult to read so it exacerbates the problem. More importantly, I tried editing the commercials using the Hide Chapters feature, but they still popped up when I tried to play the DVD on my good Samsung DVD player. . Even though the recordings play fine

my story is broken Recorder, DVD recorder

I have read several reviews on here AFTER my experience and 4 or 5 have told my story for me. 99 times out of 100 I've done thorough research on consumer electronics before making a purchase, and in fact it was 1 in 100 when I ended up at Best Buy with money in my pocket but no reviews on my mind. Like others who bought this recorder, I did it for the price but avoided unknown brands, thinking it was worth the reassurance of paying $40-50 more for a known brand. Well, long story short, I'm…

Does the job if you're not asking for anything complicated!

If you just want to record on demand, nothing special or in special formats then it will surely get the job done at a great price. 51€ + shipping paid for used. The first owner couldn't find out (neither during installation nor during use) so it was practically unused. I've had no trouble just writing to +R disks, and so far that's all I've tried. Everything I've recorded will also play on my other DVD players. The main problem that even the most inexperienced users will encounter: the manual…

good DVD recorder for beginners

Just bought mine for $175 and spent 3 hours hooking it up to a TV and DVD/VHS recorder. It was mostly my fault, I have to admit I was a little under the curve on the technical scale. Have extra cables and connectors on hand if you're connecting to more than just your TV. The manual is dense and unhelpful until you've worked with the machine for a while. THEN it makes sense. (Maybe due to lack of technical means) The TV recordings (I only have one antenna) are great and the one I made from an…

Nothing fantastic. But honestly DVD+R,+RW recorder.

Magnavox MRV640 DVD RecorderThe Magnavox MRV640 DVD Recorder has its pros and cons. However, I had no problems playing DVDs, CDs, and burning DVD+R,+RW. I love that you have a choice of up to 8 hours of recording time (depending on what discs you use). I had no problems using the audio and video inputs and outputs. I was able to easily connect my Magnavox MRV640 DVD recorder to my Panasonic VCR to back up my favorite videotapes. The disadvantages of the recorder are its manual control, remote…

Don't rush to refuse

This recorder is good for its capabilities. Here are some tips I've come up with to help you get the most out of it: 1. Only use it for recording and not too often for DVD playback. Not only do movies tend to get attached to this thing, but it will save the car's life.2. DVD+R is the standard it was designed for, DVD+RW works well too but usually costs more. I have recorded over 40 discs so far and have had no problems with brands like Memorex and Philips. Buy them in spindles and pay half as…

Not bad for a first time!

Well I waited a long time before I started recording to DVD and used a VCR for years because I got tired of those house sized tapes. So I finally bought this item from Best Buy at a pretty good price and I'm happy with it. For everyone who goes - What the heck are all those DVD+-_!@#$%^&**()": <>?R's?I hate that shit too. But all you have to do is buy a DVD+R in any store and they should work - JUST REMEMBER THAT ONLY WORKS ON DVD+R AND DVD+RW - IT'S REALLY EASY AND IT'S ALWAYS READ IN…
