Review on πŸ” Optimized Search: Master Lock 178D Combination Padlock by Jorge Maertz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good choice. Easy setting. Versatile and upgradeable.

Easy installation. Just a few things to keep in mind: 1) Only use the key when it is unlocked and open, with DIALED-IN combination active. 2) When the combo is ready, open it by first clenching your jaws and it will open instantly - don't try to open it, it just stays locked. 3) Turn the combination while it's open, leave it hanging open on gates/doors without revealing your code (don't leave your code dialed after it's open) 4) It only locks if your code is NOT is chosen - a. So. First turn the dials and then close them to lock them. Easy. Light. Cheaper brand combination locks are very easy to pick by first activating the locking mechanism (pushing down so it 'jumps' to release) and then slowly turning the dials to feel the slight difference in resistance in the dial's movement as the correct number. aligns with release position (some open combos are easier with backrolls). Not these master locks (178D and 175D). This is a great choice for an outdoor shed, gate or gym locker. There is a "dimple" on the back so that when it hangs, lifting it will place the numbers vertically. In a low situation where you need to lean or lower, hang it forward with an indentation so that when you lift the lock (while mostly bending and turning), the numbers appear in front of you. as above right.

Pros
  • Lock body 2" wide (51mm); 5/16" (8mm) shackle, 1" (25mm) long and 1" (25mm) wide
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks
