I needed a faster way to rough grind rotary tools and planer knives. I have a 10" Grizzly wet grinder and some Tormek attachments that work well with standard O1 blades, but I don't like A2 or HSS blades. When I want to change the bevel angle, it takes forever. The leather strap performs well with woodturning tools, but it takes time to get some serious finishing and bevelling. Heavy finishing of woodturning tools with a wet wheel also left some pretty good grooves on the wheel that needed cleaning. I would try this with a 6 inch bench grinder which I haven't used for anything. I just used a standard 60 grit gray wheel. I used a TT-50 diamond truer to true the stone, SE-76 for the planer knives, SVD-185 for some of the notches, and a TTS-100 setting template that I had already adjusted . With very light pressure and frequent cooling of the tools by immersing them in water, this worked great! I got a little greedy with the 1st planer knife and drew a very thin blue line on the edge, but by the time I sanded the bevel to where I needed it I had worn away the blue annealed material. Reshaping the lathe tools was a breeze and I can take the tool, still in the SVD-185, straight to the wet grinder for final sharpening. need something more accurate than manual. If the stock wheel wears out I can get a more suitable replacement, but it works fine as long as a light touch is used. It's definitely worth the €65 I paid for it.
