This tripod is exactly what I was looking for. I use the Orion spotting scope for bird watching and target shooting. I used an old Targus TGT-58TR tripod that we got from an old camcorder, but the Targus couldn't stably hold the heavy spotting scope due to the design of the head (see image) between the mount and the body of the head. which, although it held up, our little camcorder wouldn't have been able to carry a heavier spotting scope without a lot of wobbling and wiggling. Although the Barska tripod head has plastic, it doesn't have much room to maneuver, which makes it significantly more stable. Stability is important when using the 60x zoom. Pros - Inexpensive. Works for what I want. Hold the telescope. Con- The height adjustment creaks and jerks a bit when panning. I think I can help balance this out with a good gear cleaning and lithium grease. But it doesn't affect what I use it for, so no problem. The head and buttons are made of durable plastic, but that's to be expected at this price point. Overall - for the price I'm very happy with this tripod. It holds my scope firmly without wiggling or wobbling like the Targus. If you want professional, smooth pan control, spend hundreds of dollars on a professional setup. If you are looking for a lightweight, inexpensive aluminum and plastic tripod that will hold your gear securely, I recommend this Barska tripod.
