I wish I had bought it sooner

I have to admit, power supplies aren't meant to be sexy. You should be sitting there, unobtrusively powering all the components of your computer, no questions asked. You shouldn't notice them. When they stop, it's time to buy a new one, right? When my computer started randomly shutting down with a 12 year old power supply, I decided it was time to upgrade it (it took a few rebuilds). I didn't know fanless PSUs existed until I started browsing PSU reviews (who in their right mind researches PSUs?). The Seasonic brand has been praised on several websites not only for fan-powered power supplies but also for fanless power supplies (although I've never heard of them before). Their performance was also top notch, as was their warranty. What's not to love? Well the price is quite high. I think you get what you pay for. What are you getting? Incredible silence! I knew my old PSU was the noisiest part of my computer, but I didn't realize how noisy it was until I installed Seasonic. Now I can hardly tell it's on. I didn't notice the "electrical hum" that some other reviews complain about (if any, I can't hear it over a 500RPM case fan). It's also much more efficient than my old PSU, which I haven't heard of. I think it was a problem until I measured the vampire leak. My old PSU used 3-4 watts constantly when the computer was off, so I always set the PSU switch to the off position to conserve power when I wasn't using the computer. When the computer is off, the Seasonic uses less than half a watt (I couldn't even measure it), which is a big plus. If you are not in the habit of turning off the electricity, you will save 2-3 kWh per month. A small amount when you look at your monthly electric bill, but over the 10 year power supply life you're talking about $20-$50 (depending on the electricity price in your area). Suddenly, a price that high doesn't look so bad after all. Overall I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this power supply.

Pros
  • I look forward to
Cons
  • The list will be long.
