Review on ๐ŸŽก Wood Trick Ferris Mechanical Observation Toy by Rob Marsh

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Amazing that all twelve gears do their job!

Overall height when assembled 13.5 inches. The wheel rotates about 25% of its total circumference. With more use it makes a complete revolution - slowly. low current Uses three 2 inch diameter rubber bands that stretch up to 9 inches for their strength. Loses "amp" when stretching rubber bands 6 inches. I'm afraid to wrap it too tight lest the rubber bands or a thin string (pull the wheel) break. Once the base is closed it becomes difficult to replace the broken rubber bands. In the past you built a Wood Trick locomotive, a big truck and a forklift. The ferris wheel is the most difficult to assemble correctly, but it also brings the greatest satisfaction when the puzzle is solved. It is a technical marvel that a wooden movement (with clutch) works like this. He devoted about four hours a day to solving puzzles; spent a lot of time reading and re-reading assembly instructions to understand how gears work. Many trial tests of gears were also conducted to determine which surfaces needed additional grinding to avoid seizure. It took a week to complete the task. For me the hardest part was preparing the parts for assembly. Requires extra attention when sanding and waxing the surfaces to keep everything spinning without binding. After the whole gear tower was built, the cord strap was threaded through the spools, and the rubber band motor worked with the clutch, I was happy. It was almost unbearable to assemble eight little swing seats on a real wheel (since it required a lot of "toothpicks"), but I was curious to see if the little rubber band would turn the 10-inch wheel. Yes, but not much. I had a drill press to line up the holes and have experience with other jigsaw puzzles. This is not a good "starter" puzzle for everyone. Third parties will marvel at the Ferris wheel without realizing the wonderful work that goes into making it spin with just a few rubber bands. This toy is not for children. The finished result is irresistible to them, but you should not put the finished puzzle in the hands of children because the wood is not as strong as them. Kind. It turns a little. The gearbox (with clutch) is really fun to build. The way is more satisfying than the goal.

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • Without automatic controls
