Revainrating 4 out of 5

a lot of things: Car electronics

(8/17/2021) Update: Star added and previously removed star returned (4 stars) The volume knob and steering control issue mentioned in my original feedback is SEMI fixed. For some reason this only validates 4/5 keys and always considers the "missing" key to have the same function as one of the other keys. For example, my previous button thinks it's a volume increase, and the volume control works as expected. Any remapping does this, so it's a compatibility issue with ASWC and this device. I countered that by simply never using the previous one because I never go back to the song anyway and skipping is more important to me. I returned the star because I solved the random controls remapping issue. The USB stick I used to adjust the volume didn't work. I bought a different brand replacement and since then the steering has worked like an intentional never automatic remapping AND the volume control works as intended. So technically it's user error, not manufacturer error. I added an asterisk because honestly I really like it after using it for maybe a month or more. I love how clear my backup camera looks on this large display and I love sitting in my car with the windows open on a nice day watching TV shows with my girlfriend. Basically, I can do that because I have a matte screen protector, so current and future owners should take my advice. Take the matte protective film and cut it to size. It will help him dramatically. I'm still not going to deduct a star because Bluetooth audio is still terrible (can be fixed in the equalizer settings though) and the problem I had with Spotify persists, and apparently not just Spotify. The problem was that when playing a track for the first time, skipping or rewinding a track, Spotify "played" the track but there was no sound. To fix this I would have to pause the song, wait a second, then hit resume and the audio would come back. This problem is not limited to Spotify. I had the same problem on YouTube. I clicked on the video, there was no sound (but there was video) then I paused the video for 1 second and when I continued the sound came back. It's almost like forcing the app on the head unit to buffer the content. Inconvenient, but for me personally it is not critical. All different. But considering it's a software issue, it's a manufacturer issue and a lost star. You can send a software update to fix the problem. If they do, they have that 5th star. Considering that this is most likely a software issue rather than a hardware issue, hopefully this can be fixed without having to uninstall it and go through an RMA. The software is almost always patched by additional/other software that the company can produce. Whether or not they do so is the outcome to be determined. (later 7/2021) Update: star deducted. Just used bluetooth for music, terrible quality. Sounds like a DVD. There is no proper bass or treble, there is a static hiss. It's better to use Android apps for audio than Bluetooth. Shame. This is a plus for atoto as it has aptx which has greatly improved bluetooth clarity. That's missing. Still keeping it as I bought it on a discount (at least compared to the original price) and having to replace it and then remove it is a huge mission. (from 7/2021) not worth the money. First, it's $320. Its main competitor (the Atoto series) is roughly in the same price range but offers more features, compatibility and stability. The hardware on paper is better than what ATOTO has to offer at this price point, so plus EONON. As a former ATOTO owner, there are things I do that I don't miss. First, how it differs from ATOTO: fast charging is actually fast charging. Initial startup takes 10-20 seconds, and booting from "sleep mode" is almost instantaneous. Turns on faster than my DVR. Atoto (for me) took about 2-3 seconds to start (as listed), but if it got too hot or too cold it would perform a full start that took 30-60 seconds. The complaint about ATOTO is that you can't use a rear camera when downloading. Because EONON charges quickly, you don't have to wait long when you start the car to use the camera. This happens quickly AFTER enabling developer options and disabling animation scaling. Animations on Android always slow down the speed. I did it on an atoth and it helped, but not much to be honest. This thing can easily run many tasks and backup them in the background and while sleeping. In fact, running too many apps/processes can cause it to freeze, and shutting down the car will result in a full reboot as the device is unable to handle all the recurring processes. Everything else works as expected, which is good. Another plus is the screen dimming. After everything was properly wired to the car, the screen dimmed along with the headlights, but never came on again when the lights were off. This feature works as designed with EONON. Now for the cons. First, my steering wheel controls are not working well (Toyota Corolla Metra ASWC 2013). I mean it works for a while, but randomly the keys are remapped. It's all louder, louder and all louder forward. Every now and then he comes back. This makes it very inconsistent and awkward when trying to use the steering wheel controls. That didn't happen with atoto or the last two radios I had before. Sometimes Wi-Fi doesn't connect (when I use my phone as a hotspot). This is often fixed by turning Wi-Fi on/off. Not a big test, just an inconvenience. Spotify songs are playing but have no sound for some reason. Scenario: You play a song, it plays but when you then press next or skip it shows the next song, it shows the track finder is playing but there is no sound (like it's muted) . Then you need to press pause, wait 2-3 seconds and continue and the sound will come back. It's literally almost every song. I don't have this problem when using music over Bluetooth, but I bought an Android head unit specifically to use as a standalone Android system (with native apps instead of Bluetooth). Not confirmed yet if this is application specific but appears to be an issue with the EONON software as I haven't had this issue with ATOTO. Both atoto and eonon did not have a volume control. To counteract this, I bought a USB volume controller. This worked correctly with atoto (only when using Android apps, not Bluetooth), but only once with EONON. I guess you have to unplug it and plug it back in. Since the wiring is behind the radio, this is an inconvenience that doesn't even guarantee it will work properly after I redo the wiring. Another drawback is the screen. To be honest the screen is very nice and my rear camera looks a lot better with this radio but uses a glossy screen. This is a big problem because of the lighting in a car with windows. Sun glare is a big nuisance. To counter this, I bought a matte screen protector for Lenovo Tabs and then cut it to fit the screen (just the screen, not the entire screen). It works very well for counteracting the sun, but it should have been included in the device in my opinion. Atoto comes with a protective film and already has a matte screen. As such, I personally consider a glossy display to be poor design for a device that is typically exposed to sunlight. Regarding the steering wheel controls, I contacted the company through the Amazon messaging system and they responded very quickly. I'll fix the error with their recommendation if I can and see if that fixes the issue. It took a while for the email support team to reply, so I recommend contacting the company directly through Amazon if you need help. I also bought these "used/like new" at a reduced price. I think it was better to buy at a reduced price. Given the issues I've encountered, I can't recommend it at the current price, even with the hardware. Because the hardware is there, but the software is not. I will update the review in a timely manner based on updates and any issues/fixes I encounter.
