Review on ๐ŸŽฃ Susan Bates 3.5mm Salmon Crochet Hook with Bamboo Handle - Silvalume Head, 5-1/2-Inch by Tara Ford

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Unlike the standard Susan Bates Silvalume hooks

Compared to the standard all-metal Silvalume hooks, the bamboo crochet hook has a less sharp end (see photo). It also has a less deep slit. In the photo on the left a hook with a bamboo handle, on the right a standard hook. The metal of the bamboo handle hook also had pitting and roughness in the finish. All my standard Silvalume hooks are very smooth and precise. This hook is disappointing. This is my second bamboo handle hook from Susan Bates and the other bamboo handle hook was also rougher and rounder than the standard hooks. Hooks with bamboo handles were made in India. By default, all metal hooks are made in Mexico. The difference in the shape of the hook changes the thickness of the crochet. In my case, the caliber was larger with a rounder hook. It also "slips" less on the yarn. The bamboo handle is fine. It feels comfortable and smooth in hand and definitely makes it easier to hold small hooks for longer. Too bad the working end of the hook is of lower quality.

Pros
  • Bamboo crochet hooks are a dream
Cons
  • Something different
