Disappointed - working sometimes and then randomly not working

UPDATE OCTOBER 29 Definitely unstable. We recently went on vacation and I couldn't find my keys. It turned out they were right in my purse, which I was holding. When I opened an app running in the background and clicked on it to find my keys, it said I was out of range. I definitely wasn't out of range, he was only a few inches from me. I went insane thinking I had thrown the keys in the trash when I finally found them in the zipped compartment. You never called! Not sure why I keep it on my keys in the first place. Complete waste! ORIGINAL REVIEW Loved trying these tiles with the app to be able to find our keys etc. I downloaded the app to my iPhone and found it to be pretty easy to set up. and everything went great. I then waited a minute and went to the app to look for the keys that were sitting right next to me and the tile app said they were out of range. OK, that's worrying. After looking around the app for a while, it happened to be working again. I have no problem with other things connecting via Bluetooth so I found that odd. I was trying to download an app on my iPad to see if it could find my phone and I got an error saying that when trying to call the phone, an unexpected error occurred. I assumed it would send the same signal to my phone as if I had double-clicked the tile button. This seems to indicate that he tried to call my phone but I'm not sure how he was able to do that as I never gave him my phone number. I ended up deleting the app from my iPad just in case having it on two devices is confusing. There is one thing where you can send a link to a computer and that didn't work either. I can't find where to enter my phone number. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app and my phone's search function just doesn't work, except when I double click the tile button on the actual tile. This leads me to another error. Sitting here, I double-clicked the tile button and my phone didn't ring. I checked the app and it was running in the background, but it gave me a different signal that seemed to indicate it couldn't find my phone. After opening the app and trying again, it worked. I'm skeptical that this thing will actually be a lifeline if I really lose something. It seems to work half the time and not the other half. Also at one point it said I have two tiles in my account and only set up one of the tiles so I'm not sure what's wrong with that. I plan, Installing another tile using my husband's phone and keys so I haven't installed it yet. Maybe the tiles are already paired, knowing they're from the same box. One more thing. Considering their price and the fact that they work over my Bluetooth, I'm not sure why I keep getting prompted to subscribe to a premium tile every time I press a button in the app? I could see if the tiles were only like $5 each, but I think these new ones are at least $50 for two of them. For a price like this, I shouldn't be prompted at every step by a Tiles Premium ad. As for range. It says up to 400 feet. So I put the keys in the middle of the house and went to the mailbox outside and he said the tile was out of reach. My yard might be 180 feet deep, and our back yard is way longer than our front yard, so I'm guessing I was maybe 80-90 feet. Perhaps this is only the case if your keys are in an open area with no walls. In any case, I wouldn't assume 400ft would be applicable unless you're in an open field. I'm really disappointed in them. In my opinion, they are definitely not worth the price. Something designed for me to find something lost which is a stressful situation just not always reliable. If I lose my keys I don't know if out of reach because they're out of reach or if it's just a malfunction. Thank you for reading my review, Becky Brooks.
