Review on πŸ” IOGEAR 4-Port Dual View Dual-Link DVI KVMP Switch with Audio and Full Cable Set - TAA Compliant (GCS1644) by Joe Lara

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The wireless keyboard and mouse work well with emulation. If you're having trouble, you may have an old/unrepairable GCS1644!

I bought my GCS1644 from Revain.com in April 2013. I was using a Logitech DiNovo wireless keyboard combo with a wireless mouse. I couldn't get the mouse to work with emulation enabled on the GCS1644. With mouse emulation disabled, the mouse worked fine, but of course the annoying device was connecting/disconnecting with noise and associated delays. Nothing bad, but annoying. Worst of all, the keyboard was wobbly. When pressing SHIFT+letter, the GCS1644 sometimes sent CTRL+letter to the PC, resulting in unexpected behavior (e.g. a print dialog suddenly appearing while typing). IOGEAR support told me that wireless keyboards are not supported, so I replaced it with a Logitech backlit keyboard. Same problem. Basically, I was angry with myself for choosing Logitech again, mistakenly thinking it might be a general IOGEAR/Logitech incompatibility. After thinking about it for a few months, I decided to spend money on DasKeyboard after reading their claim that the keyboard was "compatible with all KVMs". Got the keyboard. Same problem! I then decided to dig up an old IBM PS/2 keyboard from the attic and hook it up using the PS/2 adapter that came with the GCS1644. Same problem! It's clearly not a keyboard issue, it's a GCS1644 issue, so I'm now contacting Logitech again with my finding and this time they're issuing an RMA without further ado. When I received the device back, I noticed that there was an RMA on the packing list. Service Code "D006" where "D" means "Old Model/Unrepairable". They sent me a new device. The device I sent them had 2 inch wide strips of felt on the bottom and they disappeared. It is clear that he has been replaced. The new device works perfectly! Even my Logitech wireless mouse now works correctly with mouse emulation enabled. IMPRESSIVE! Now it's a 5-star device! If you have problems, you better make sure your purchase is not an "old model/unserviceable" one.

Pros

Cons
  • boring packaging
