When setting up my Raspberry Pi 3 as a mini DVD and CD player I wanted LG Electronics 8X USB 2.0 Super Multi Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer +/ - use RW M-DISC capable external drive (black) GP65NB60 because of USB power delivery. However, I quickly found that the standard Pi couldn't deliver enough power to keep the DVD player running reliably and would sometimes not turn on at all if I was unlucky. To solve this problem, I found a cable that could provide additional power and still allow me to connect a DVD player to the cake for data transfer. This USB-A to BY cable was perfect for the job as the secondary cable allowed me to provide additional USB power to the DVD player without resorting to too many technical tricks. (I personally use EasyAcc Power Banks that I own [Fast and Efficient] EasyAcc Power Bank 26000mAh 4 Ports External Charger Portable Charger for Android Phones Samsung HTC Tablets - Black and Orange for this purpose as they have extra power ports for multiple devices that can be plugged in instantly.) With this cable I can now spin any CD or DVD I want without worrying about slow spin speed or no function due to low power!
