Makes old 2.5 " hard drives spin

Some older 2.5" drives just don't like spinning when powered by a single standard USB2 connector. This effectively doubles the power available by drawing from two. He did what I wanted and that's all I can ask. The construction appears to be of high quality and despite fairly constant use in the car to power the music deck it has not yet fallen apart or shown any problems. :P

  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Ideal for "normal " external hard drives.

The long cable is very practical. This cable with optional USB connector (power supply only) is required if you have an external hard drive. I had a Hitachi 60GB SATA II laptop hard drive installed in a standard external USB 2.0 adapter case that came with a dual USB patch cord like this one, albeit much shorter, and I didn't use it much , preferring the longer Mini to use USB to a standard USB cable, which I've already had to connect a hard drive to. Well, after a couple of months the drive…

Simple product, just works

This is a micro USB cable that ends with two USB plugs to give your device twice the power. I have an external hard drive that has stopped working on my computer (because a broken graphics card seems to have shorted out my motherboard somehow) and I thought I could no longer use my external hard drive on my computer. Until I read something about the drive not getting enough power. Someone had a similar problem as me and this was one of the suggestions. The cable is cheap so I bought it. I…

Poor Man to USB DAC audiophile cable

Using this Y cable between my computer and an external DAC (digital to analog converter) for my audio system with a twist (see attached photos). With an additional power supply (battery power supply or linear power supply), the DC noise from my PC no longer reaches my DAC. All he needs is a tiny piece of tape for that cable and an extra power adapter (found on head-fi.org, thanks to member zilchm0d). There are many products from Schitt (USA), iFi (UK), etc. that cost between $100 and $300. My…

Required for WD hard drive to work with WiiU

Product works great! When we upgraded to WiiU, we used a WD external hard drive to transfer all data from Wii to WiiU. Since then we've kept the hard drive connected to the WiiU, assuming everything is stored there. Just recently we received a notification that our WiiU was out of storage. It seems that the WD hard drive can be ported to USB with a USB Mini, but it cannot serve as storage for the WiiU without additional power to the device. Since it wasn't a powered hard drive, it seemed like…

Used with my Raspberry Pi 3 for DVD Player

When setting up my Raspberry Pi 3 as a mini DVD and CD player I wanted LG Electronics 8X USB 2.0 Super Multi Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer +/ - use RW M-DISC capable external drive (black) GP65NB60 because of USB power delivery. However, I quickly found that the standard Pi couldn't deliver enough power to keep the DVD player running reliably and would sometimes not turn on at all if I was unlucky. To solve this problem, I found a cable that could provide additional power and still allow me to

Looks ok but keeps going off.

Short version: This cable does not connect properly to the drive. Long version: I got it to power an old but 100% working hard drive enclosure. I know it works because using different cables everything works perfectly. The reason I wanted was to use it with my Wii to play backup games I own so the Wii drive will last longer. I wanted this because some games pause for a few seconds every now and then. I checked the hard drive and it draws slightly more power than the Wii can output from a single
