Short version: This cable does not connect properly to the drive. Long version: I got it to power an old but 100% working hard drive enclosure. I know it works because using different cables everything works perfectly. The reason I wanted was to use it with my Wii to play backup games I own so the Wii drive will last longer. I wanted this because some games pause for a few seconds every now and then. I checked the hard drive and it draws slightly more power than the Wii can output from a single USB port. After installing it without touching anything, it just disconnected from my Wii. I found it weird so I tried connecting the drive to my computer with a new cable but it wouldn't turn on. I wanted to unplug the drive and it suddenly caught fire. I immediately suspected the cable as I had seen it before. I lifted the drive and it turned off again. Pushing the cable connected and disconnected the drive. I unplugged the cable, used the previous cable and had no problems. Tried two replacement cables and had no problems. To be honest I'm disappointed because nobody else makes this Y-cable and I don't want to buy another one only to be stuck with two useless cables. It's cheap enough I can call it laundry.
