I bought this shelf because I needed a good center channel speaker mount above my flat screen TV. I didn't want to use a standard speaker wall mount as my TV is on a swivel mount, so getting a shelf that matched my existing mount (also the Monoprice mount) was important. However, this shelf is huge. It accommodates your Blu-ray player, gaming systems and more. I didn't want something nearly as huge over my TV so I used parts of it to make my own shelf. I don't use glass shelving and I had to cut the horizontal support arms with a hacksaw, then sand them down with a dremel and spray paint them black. I then received a laser cut piece of 5mm thick black Plexiglas for a new tray that perfectly matched my speaker. Mounted on the shortened brackets, I now have the perfect bracket for my center speaker. Too bad I had to buy a glass shelf as well, but this seems like the cheapest way to get custom shelf brackets for your flat screen TV.
