Review on πŸ” George Foreman GRP472P Platinum 5-Serving Removable Plate Grill and Panini Press by Ryan Noble

Easy to use and consistent

Let me upfront by saying that I'm an incredibly bad cook. I'm very good at pancakes, mediocre at omelettes and really good at nothing else. I'm someone who can't boil water without spoiling it somehow. I also have a passion for steaks and have ruined dozens of steaks trying to cook one and failing. Someone at work suggested I try George Foreman's Grill and of course I was skeptical. However, I bought one. Installation was easy, just wash and insert the two ceramic plates and place a grease trap underneath. The directions for use indicated how long dishes like steak and salmon should be cooked, so I got started. The first thing I liked was how foolproof this operation was. There are no buttons, no dials, no dual displays. Turn it on and it starts heating. When the green light goes out, the dish is ready to cook. The aerosol spray was not needed and obviously shouldn't be used anyway. So I slathered some butter and salt on my steak, threw it on the grill, closed it and waited 5 minutes. I opened it up, cutting the steak a little, not completely. In two minutes I had an outstanding steak that required little to no effort and definitely didn't allow for overcooking. This grill eliminates most variable cooking methods. I have trouble with recipes because they are too vague. Medium can mean anything between 30% and 70% on a stovetop, and there's a lot of intuition and guesswork between different types of metals, different ovens, and other cooking variables. Not so with George Foreman's grill. Turn it on, throw in your meat and wait for it to be raw. That's all. Cleaning is easy, I just wait for it to cool down a bit and hold it under the tap, maybe I'll scratch it a little if I've burned my flesh. It's dishwasher safe, but I didn't find the dishwasher necessary because it's truly non-stick. The bonus is that it's non-stick and Teflon-free, so there's nothing nasty about it. I placed it next to my (usually unused) stove because it didn't quite fit on it due to annoying coils. Honestly, this was the best purchase I've ever made and I didn't mind giving up some counter space, especially as it doesn't take up much space. I've been eating steak and sausage every day for the last week and will be moving on to other things soon. I have successfully cooked more meat in the last 2 weeks than I have in my entire life which is why this grill gets 5 stars. The picture shows how it looks in relation to my dirty counter and hopefully gives an idea of the size. The cat that shouldn't be on top is a bonus!
