Genuine new GM parts are cheaper than other sites that sell used ones.
On our 1996 c1500 the small end of the knob broke off causing the shift rod to stick out too far and the shifter to jam when parked. You had to rock it back and forth to get it out. I took the oil pan and valve body off and found that the reason was that shift rod. Replaced it with this one and it works great again.
