We use a Dino-Lite with measuring function at work (same model). I just bought it for home use and have used it numerous times to diagnose mechanical damage, manufacturing defects and the way I use it for work, measuring dimensions, angles etc. I'm sure it will be interesting to see errors etc. but I plan to use it mainly for detailed inspection of mechanical parts and it's ideal for taking photos and emailing them to friends or clients to send. With manual focusing, it's a bit difficult to achieve repeatability without a well-planned setup, but it's easily achievable with a little effort. My first setup yielded 0.001 inch repeatability, but it took a bit of effort to get it right. The built in LEDs are great in almost any environment and if you set up the picture well to give some contrast you can get very sharp images. It's also easy to take photos, but more importantly, videos to show errors in the part's rotation and illuminate different areas that are difficult or impossible to understand with just a few images. So all in all I bought one of these because I use it at work and bought one for my dad.
