THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR YOUR FISH. The design of the heater is such that it allowed our betta to swim in the thermometer and get stuck in the case, clinging to the heating element. The device has been placed in a horizontal position as described and as indicated in the instructions. DO NOT BUY THIS DANGEROUS ARTICLE FOR YOUR BETA. Luckily I was able to retrieve the fish, but it's not yet clear how much physical and emotional damage will be done. on an animal.
