This product works as advertised IF you have the two following conditions: a top loading washing machine and allow enough free movement in the load so the catcher can easily float on the surface as seen in my photo. It can't skim the debris floating on top of the water if it's tumbling in a front loader or gets pulled down by lots of items swishing too close to the top!I use it when washing the polar fleece liners and pads that go in my guinea pigs' cages. I shake off the hay bits and brush off excess hair (droppings were already swept off!) before washing, but not everything is removed. When using the skimmer in the manner I described, there is a good amount of loose hair and hay caught.
