My cat loves this after working with her for about a week! The Velcro fastener makes it much easier to put on. This is not an escape defense! Even when it's tight, my cat will slip out of the harness if the leash is pulled from the front, so I'll never fully trust her to even leave her alone for a minute. It doesn't have a handle, but it's strong enough to grab and lift a cat in a hurry with one hand. I have a medium and it works great for my 7 month old 8 lb cat and has room to grow. Probably too big for a younger/small cat. The velcro can be overlapped and the straps are easily adjustable. This is how I put the harness on my cat: I squat down, lay the harness face up on the floor in front of me, put the cat between my legs, feet together. so she has her back to my legs and is pinched, then I take both of her legs and put them through the 2 leg holes of the harness, close the velcro (should be snug; allowed to overlap) and fasten the buckle. I worked slowly with my cat each day and found that I could easily pet her tail to encourage her to move around on her own. A week later she explored herself but I'm always ready for her to run away if she hears another noise etc. Now she knows the harness means we go for a walk in the woods, (sure) critter hunting and ( partly) climb trees. This is my first house cat and she is really wonderful to us and the wildlife. Be patient and it's really a lot of fun.
