I have purchased five APC PE76W (white) and PE76 (black) 7 outlet surge protectors to replace old ones that are no longer needed. (I've seen recommendations to replace them every year or two.) I like a lot about the PE76 and PE76W. The extended/relocated plug at the end allows you to plug in a good-sized power supply (aka a wall wart) without obscuring other outlets. The flat 90 degree plug allows the device to be connected behind bookshelves and tall drawers. The cable is long and appears to be of good quality. My problem with them is that all five of them had their flashlights start flickering or even go out. (I uploaded a video showing what the problem is. ) Some caught on pretty quickly; others took a month or two to get a problem. I checked the circuit with a circuit tester (both in the wall and in the surge protector) and the circuit is fine. These units come with a lifetime warranty but I don't think replacing them will help and I don't think it's worth fixing. To be honest I had another surge protector with flickering LEDs and it wasn't the APC brand. It's been a while and most of them didn't have the bottom light flickering or going out so I think it's a manufacturing issue. Personally, I'm not worried about Earth, but I've seen where it can bother others. **Updated 10/11/2017** The device I used in the following video now also has the security LED blinking. Since surge protectors don't "heal" themselves, obviously just a problem with the light, not the power protection. Thing is, I can't be sure it will always be like this, so I threw it away and replaced it with a Tripp Lite 10-Output 8-Foot Cord 2395J (TLP1008TEL) Phone/Modem Extension Cord. I liked the smaller size of the old one, but what's the point if I can't count on it?
