I bought a used Linksys EPSX3 print server to be able to network my old HP Deskjet 722c to my new MacBook Pro as Macs don't have parallel ports. I have networking experience so this was a fairly easy task. I wouldn't buy a non-networked printer these days, or plan to buy a regular printer and then connect it to the network through a print server. However, if you can get a free or relatively cheap good printer and get that print server cheap, it's certainly a worthwhile combination if you know how to pair the two.
