These worked just fine both for holiday lighting and for general path lighting. They stayed on far longer than others solar lights I'd tried even during the shortest winter days -- with sunsets at around 5 pm in late December, they were still bright enough to light our walk safely at least as late as 11 pm. I wondered at first whether we should have gotten the white rather than the amber version for the steady--lighting mode, but we now very much like the gentle amber look. The changing colors in holiday mode were attractive and drew appreciative comments from neighbors and passersby.
