They won't hold 18lbs. But they hold up very well. I live in a school bus that I converted into an RV. The main reason I bought these was to attach the shower curtain to the ceiling, because my ceiling is curved and I couldn't fit the rod properly, these little hooks do their job well. There are so many uses for them, especially for my situation. Since my bus is mostly metal and I can hang Christmas lights outside my bus in the winter, I just use these hooks and just take them off when I'm done. I can hang almost anything I want from the ceiling, including clothes. As you can see in the picture I hung a very heavy winter coat and it held up very well. So I added another very heavy winter suede coat along with another heavy coat and it held up with no problem. I put the coffee cup on the fridge and it doesn't slide, which is very strong. I hung a mop from the ceiling, I hung a heavy chain and they all stood up well, hope this helps. Even when I move the shower curtain to get in and out of the shower, these little hooks don't budge! The only reason I get four stars is because it doesn't hold 18 pounds.
