When zooming out, the lens image no longer covers the entire sensor, resulting in large black corners in the image at the widest angle. There's also significant fisheye distortion that doesn't go away when you zoom in. Even at the extreme end of the zoom, the straight lines are still noticeably round. I was also hoping that the larger sensor would be more sensitive to light than my laptop's webcam. However, it turned out to be less sensitive and required a much longer gain/exposure time (resulting in noise and motion blur) to achieve the same brightness.
