I have two cats, one is a picky eater and the other is not. I've been browsing the best cat food brands looking for something useful for the picky eaters. He doesn't drink enough water so wet food is key, I've tried replacing regular dry food. It doesn't smell great, but it doesn't smell terrible either, I had to grind the pieces almost to a powder and then mix them with water to serve. I add more water than necessary because it helps my silly cat get the water she needs, he seems to be really enjoying the food, he's happy when he sees me doing it in the morning. He seems to stay fed and happy until I feed him again at night. The price is prohibitive, but you get more than you think given the weight of the product. TL; DR: Easy to make, cat-loving, expensive.
