I have successfully evacuated a tub using a fountain pump. The only difficulty was that the hose was short, stiff and heavily twisted. It took me two hands to hold and operate the pump mechanism and a third hand to hold the hose in the bucket I was pumping water into. It was almost impossible to keep the hose in the bucket. I would make the hose longer, more flexible overall, and not too twisted, or add a hose connector at the end to screw onto the hose, which could then transport the water to where it's needed. Despite the fact that quite a bit of water squirted out from behind the dangling end of the hose, I managed to empty the tub to clean it out.
