Review on 🐱 Purina Pro Plan Urinary Tract Health: High Protein Adult Dry Cat Food Chicken & Rice – Optimal Packaging for Maximum Variety! by Miriam Hettich

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Pro plan was great cat food for our "big girl "

As our cat had 2 urinary tract infections within 6 months and couldn't get a urine sample at the next intake. On the second infestation, our cat was advised to switch from senior chow, inner chow, turkey and rice to an adult urinary formula. We told the vet we use Pro Plan and she confirmed it was good cat food. We added this new formula to her previous Pro Plan diet in increasing amounts for about two weeks. Our 19 lb cat (not fat, just a big girl) had no issues transitioning to Pro Plan formulas so we're happy. For the second vet app. We brought our cat to us as she had not had a bowel movement for 2 days. The vet (who could feel some small, round feces) said that a cat with a UTI will often experience discomfort or pain with defecating and will therefore not defecate. She recommended the use of urinary tract nutrition. Since it was not possible to determine whether the infection had healed without a urine sample, the veterinarian gave her a second long-term injection of an antibiotic in addition to her stool softener. Our only concern is that the Pro Plan Urinary Tract formula does not fight hairballs. As the recurrence of UTIs is a concern, we have decided to stick with the UTI formula. My husband later read online that some vets recommend adding soft/liquid foods to the diet to reduce constipation so we decided to try that too. We supplemented her kibble with a soft supper with gravy, but gave her "meals" 1/4 portion treats for 4 days. Since she licks up the sauce but won't eat soft bits, we puree one dish and the sauce, give her 1/4 of it and put the rest in the fridge. We heat the other portions before serving as the heat is more appetizing and should help relax the muscles so the poo can pass more easily. She even gobbles up her "treat" during the day when she sits next to her dry cat food in hopes of getting more puree (which has duck in it), though she likes the Pro plan too. After taking medication and changing the food, our cat is fine. We have been very happy with Purina Pro Plan Urinary Tract cat food and have previously been happy with Pro Plan Adult Cat Mix with Turkey and Rice. Before using Pro Plan we used another brand recommended and sold by veterinarians. I have to say that our cat ate (and does) much better on the Pro Plan than the other brand of cats. My only regret is that I didn't upgrade to the Pro plan sooner.
