Not useful for steps less than 500 feet

I don't understand why so many people think this is a good altimeter. I went to a town about 450 feet high and set the altimeter to that elevation. Then I drove up a long hill and after a while the altimeter read exactly 1000 feet. Whether that was true or not, I don't know. But at least the altimeter was moving in the right direction. I then hiked through steep hills and valleys for a couple of hours - which is why I bought this altimeter to determine how high and low those hills and valleys are. But the altimeter stays within an iota of 1000 feet making it 100% useless for the purpose I bought it for. Then I brought it home and kept it on the table most of the week. His readings stayed at 1,000 feet for four days. Then on the fifth day, when there were no clouds in the sky and no visible change in atmospheric pressure, it dropped to 900 feet. It is not possible to calculate an elevation change of less than 50 feet. A writer who says they can spot 10-foot changes must have Link Vision or have something to do with the company. And his assumption that this altimeter would accurately reflect such small steps shows his credulity. The only reason I'm giving this altimeter two stars (instead of one) is because I assume - a big guess - that it might be useful to determine if it might be useful when someone is driving through real mountains like the Rocky Mountains at 6000 feet. or 9,000 feet, probably within 10 percent or more. I would return this altimeter in a heartbeat, but as far as I can tell I don't find any of the others better. What I really want is an accurate digital altimeter so I can tell if I'm at 1125ft or 1145ft without interpolating where the needle is pointing. So if anyone reading this knows of such an altimeter, please respond to this description. Many Thanks
