a must for tourists.

I love this altimeter very much. without batteries, all mechanical and very precise, lightweight and easy to read, fits in the palm of your hand. have used this a few times on mountain hikes and keeps me at the right height. Also great for tracking rapidly changing weather, I see a large low pressure reading and camp out just in time to weather the storm. I would highly recommend it to any electronic altimeter because it always works and doesn't have all the bells and whistles I don't need.

Pros
  • beautiful thing

Small but has problems.

I like the concept of checking air pressure and altitude with a mechanical device. One problem I've found is that the barometric pressure instructions say to use an orange index line and not a black arrow. However, when you turn your face to set the reference height, the orange guide line moves, making it impossible to read the pressure accurately without a source to recalibrate. And after a few weeks, it becomes known that the barometric pressure value never changes. Works like an altimeterโ€ฆ

Lightweight, Reliable, Gets the Job Done

I had this altimeter for a summer camping trip so it's time to check it out. This altimeter is very light, requires no batteries, is easy to set up and tells me what I want to know. I use it to track elevation when hiking, especially on steep climbs or descents. It's good for my morale to know how far I have to go up or down. It is easy to use for this purpose. It can be read in 50ft increments at best (marks are 100ft so you can interpolate between them) but is accurate enough for me. I foundโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Some flaws

Great little altimeter. Bought for hiking Washington's Cascade Range since my old altimeter died. Robust construction. Appears to be as accurate as a small mechanical altimeter. These things are actually barometers with moving hands to convert barometric pressure to altitude. You calibrate this by rotating the moving dial when it is at a known altitude, e.g. B. a landmark whose altitude can be read from your map. lose altitude calibration. The moving dial of the old one was almost impossible to

Pros
  • Very fast delivery
Cons
  • Problem

This is a very good product that can serve as both a primary gauge and a secondary backup gauge for measuring weather conditions and altitude. Used to calibrate the Kestrel Digital Anemometer, an altitude and barometric pressure instrument also available on Revain.com. (With the fine tuning/calibration of this device, could it also work differently as a Kestrel or as a digital device?) Only gave 4 stars because the face is actually a bit difficult to read in good light, especially for those who

Not useful for steps less than 500 feet

I don't understand why so many people think this is a good altimeter. I went to a town about 450 feet high and set the altimeter to that elevation. Then I drove up a long hill and after a while the altimeter read exactly 1000 feet. Whether that was true or not, I don't know. But at least the altimeter was moving in the right direction. I then hiked through steep hills and valleys for a couple of hours - which is why I bought this altimeter to determine how high and low those hills and valleysโ€ฆ
