Review on Cantilever Server Shelf Mount Aluminum by Michael Powell

This 6" deep 19" aluminum rack mount shelf is the lightest I've found. I like that it's metal (not plastic, which can break in a crash) and I like that it's aluminum (not steel, which weighs more). I measured its thickness at 18G (0.05 inch ≈ 1.27mm), which is relatively thin. lip wrinkle direction. My review explains this with a drawing I made showing a cross section in red. My drawing shows the tabs stacked *in* the space of a 1U rack. In addition, 1/2" edges are further reinforced with 1/4" edges. I've never seen a steel shelf with that second bend, but it makes sense for 18-gauge aluminum. This makes the shelf as stiff as steel but as light as aluminum.
