Bulky, but practical for multi-testers

So far I have only performed very limited tests on the accuracy of the measurements made with the MSR-A1000. One thing that interested me was the sensitivity of the instrument when measuring frequency. Using an RF signal generator and an oscilloscope, I found that the RF input level required for a stable frequency reading was much higher than specifications. For example, at 3MHz and below, the required RF level for stable readings is 70mVrms or less, and at the maximum frequency that the meter will measure (11.990MHz), the required level is about 400mVrms. The user manual states that the maximum input voltage for frequency measurement is 30 Vrms. The manual hint states that higher input voltage will result in inaccurate frequency measurement, but does not specify what input voltage will damage the meter in frequency measurement mode. I asked the manufacturer about this and he replied that voltages above 30Vrms for a long period of time would damage the meter. This isn't as clear an answer as I was hoping, but I suspect that trying to measure line frequency directly (120Vrms) will damage the meter after a while.
