Review on ๐Ÿ’พ PNY Metal Attachรฉ P FDU32G - High-Quality Flash Drive for Enhanced Performance and Reliability by Dave Cavazos

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Probably not good for backups

The price was very attractive for the capacity of these drives. Reading the reviews, I noticed a few complaints about the key fob and the plastic connector. Not intending to use them on a keychain I figured that wouldn't be a problem. I noticed that one of the first two drives I ordered was difficult to insert and remove from multiple USB ports where I tried. Some of the others I ordered were also difficult to plug in, but one was very loose and almost fell out of every USB port I tried it on. I've noticed that others have mentioned the same fitment issue, so maybe that says something about quality control. The size of these disks is unusual. They are larger than SanDisk slim drives and smaller than regular flash drives. On the plus side, these drives run cooler than SanDisk but are also slower. When I got the first two drives, I ran H2testw tests (read/write/verify) and they passed the tests with no errors. So I ordered a total of 4 more and didn't test the 4 new discs any further. When the new drives arrived, I checked their characteristics and noticed a pretty big difference in the total capacity of each device (58.8GB vs. 60.4GB). I thought it was unusual for supposedly identical drives, but I copied some video files onto the drives using 50% to 75% of their total capacity. Came back later to add files to the first drive and my computer gave me an error saying the drive was unrecognizable. I had to reformat the drive before the computer recognized the drive again, but that's a bad sign as I bought them for backup purposes. I'm concerned about their reliability. If I return to these drives later, I can access my backup data. I also ordered and received a PNY 128GB which I am currently testing. I'll do an endless H2testw test to see if it's worth keeping. I have several drives from SanDisk, Kingston and Verbatim and have never had this problem with them. I ordered a total of six of these discs and have now returned all six. Thank goodness for Revain and their excellent return policy.
