It converts the display port connector to an HDMI connector. So if your computer has a DisplayPort connector for video output, you can connect an HDMI cable to it by using this adapter. Link ends are small and do not block adjacent ports. Very good wire quality. My use: Our computer has an HDMI connector and a display port. We use two monitors, both monitors only have HDMI inputs. With this adapter on the computer end of this cable, we connect an HDMI cable to one monitor and an HDMI cable to another monitor. So we can use both outputs on the computer. By the way, we have 2 desktops and two monitors and want to use either the computer on both monitors or one computer on each monitor at the same time. With this adapter and two HDMI switches, that's no problem. These HDMI switches are for manual switching only, not automatic. That we can turn on both computers and just touch any HDMI switch to have that monitor display any computer's output. So computer A on both monitors or computer B on both monitors or A on one of the monitors and B on the other monitor. It is not necessary to turn off a computer to complete the switch. Auto switching would be a nightmare and would always make the wrong decision about which computer to display on the monitor. The manual switch was a much better idea that worked much better and always showed what we wanted on any monitor from any computer.
