Inexpensive alternative to streaming entertainment

In order to unplug the overpriced DirecTV, I had to solve a problem: replace the streaming music in my office that plays all day when I work. I wanted to find a cheap media streamer to get Spotify over ethernet and an HDMI output to play through my stereo receiver. I figured I'd have to buy an $89 Roku box with Ethernet where all the cheaper Roku devices come with WiFi. Problem solved, this Android TV Box is compliant and the basic setup only takes a few minutes. Ethernet connects directly from the router and HDMI to the receiver. I love that I can use the Spotify app for my phone as a remote control to set up playback, adjust the volume, and turn the music on or off. To test throughput, I went to my router and logged 24 hours of usage. It's amazing how little it consumes, low enough that other active users don't know it's there. I was surprised to see that the music doesn't download in one continuous stream, instead the entire song file downloads at the start of each song and then drops out to the next song. We have a basic internet plan that offers 6/3 Mbps in/out traffic. I haven't seen any instances of music swapping out or dropping out, it just plays and the sound quality is excellent.
