Better than the original

I've seen several dryer idler pulley failures - all because the manufacturer gets cheap and uses a lubricated bushing instead of a bearing. Heat destroys the lubricant over time and friction wears out the belt and pulley. If you are not lucky, the engine can die. The factory belt started to "click" shortly after purchasing the hair dryer. I figured it was peeling because the clicking (the sound of a cheap plastic splinter passing the idler pulley) would go away and come back after a few days. Despite the erosion of the factory belt, the case lasted over 10 years. I had to disassemble the dryer to replace the heating element and decided to buy a replacement belt along with this ball bearing idler pulley. Disassembly was surprisingly easy. In fact, if I didn't have to change the belt or element, I could change the idler in 15 minutes through the exhaust port. There are several videos on YouTube that will help you with this work. The average do-it-yourselfer can do this replacement at very little cost and in just a few hours (if you also replace the belt). The new belt and tensioner still feel great after about two months of use.

Pros
  • Amazing
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
