We've had Instapure filtration systems for about five years. This R5 system filters the water well - we have a house that was built in 1940 and there is a chance of lead leaking from the pipes so this is a preventive measure as well. What raises doubts is the attachment of the crane. I broke part of the clips that attach the filter to the end of the faucet - they are plastic and broke after about a year of use. Also, the valve that switches from tap water to filtered water gets a little weird (feels like the o-rings are sticking) and I've only been rid of it for a few years. However, given the aging of our galvanized pipes, this problem is probably inevitable. The last sentence I removed looked like pretty loaded crap. When we move I will install a more advanced filtration system. But despite the issues above, the output from this filter is good enough that I can endure the occasional hiccup. The company also now appears to be selling spare parts directly; In the past, when my first plastic collar broke, they sent me a brand new set of R2 filters for free. So if you have any need of their customer service, they are at the top.
