I am giving three stars because it is so difficult to assemble. The instructions were good but one person couldn't put it together (well done if you could!). I got a deep splinter on one side when reassembling, so I'd suggest inspecting the parts for roughness first (or wearing work gloves). I read other reviews of people saying their stools are broken. I can understand why - if you don't press the parts together firmly when assembling, there will be gaps. If you step on it with gaps, it will bend and press unevenly in different places. We had to parse the smaller pitch twice before we could eliminate the gaps. As a tip, before attempting to screw the rods in place, first screw a screw in and then out (so the hole is pre-punched). This greatly simplifies installation. Otherwise, you'll kill yourself trying to hold on to a slippery, rounded block of wood while someone pushes on it to spin. When it's together, it looks beautiful. I use it on the carpet in the closet and so far it works fine. I weigh less than 130 pounds and I don't know if I would be comfortable stepping on it if I were heavier. My husband avoids it.
