Review on Bike Lift Hoist Garage Storage by Mike Ewing

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Insufficient instructions and materials for proper attachment to beams.

There is no mention that these supports need to be installed in the joists and not just in the garage ceiling. The included screws have plastic anchors that can be used in place of wood in drywall, or possibly concrete if your garage has a concrete ceiling. The wordless instructions show how to attach each bracket with two screws, one edge at a time. The weight of the bike is expected to tighten the supports, leading to failure or damage to the blanket, or likely both. I don't think it would be safe to just install them on a drywall ceiling. And they must be installed parallel to the beam. Unfortunately, the standard 2 x 6 beam is not wide enough to accept 2.75" wide screws across the width of the beam. My solution is to add a second 2X6 length down the side of each support beam, or use two centrally anchored square holes down the center line of each support, using a spacer so there is no air gap between the metal. supports and ceiling. This is not a well thought out product.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
