Ideal for storing sporting goods

This bike lift is great for bikes. I pushed the limits by raising a 13.5ft 75lb tandem kayak with it. It did the job allowing me to pick it up on my own. Because it's designed to lock into place every time you stop lifting. This is a very handy feature. If it had a larger diameter rope it would be easier to lift such heavy objects but this setup is perfect for a bike or a lighter single seater kayak.

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Holes too small for cables

Based on another review I bought this bike lift to lift a 13.5ft kayak. It worked. The cord seems a bit flimsy to trust over long periods of time to hold a heavy kayak alone so I would suggest using other restraints to help with the load once it's lifted. The cord will probably take a lot of pressure on its own, but I didn't risk it. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the cable itself was difficult to thread through a couple of holes on the brackets. I had to drill one of them a little

  • Great for small homes

  • Not all will fit

The thing is terrible

First, if you mount it on the ceiling, then there are no problems. But I installed it under a canopy with 2x4 joists. You will need 5" to 6" bars. Finally, after much cutting and bolting of three 2x4 wheels, I was ready to install the gear. Everything went pretty smoothly there. "I was trying to lift my 40lb kayak. The two ends don't go together and the cheap rope broke. I have two other car lifts in my garage so I know how they work. Only one rope goes through the pulleys in this system. My…

Very good bike lift system strong and durable

Bought two and love that my bikes are now lifted and out of the way in my garage. Taking further general advice, I installed a 56" 2x4 joist bolted through 3 garage joists. 3-4" wheel studs at 3 points on joists. If you don't have a nail finder but have a garage opener, locate the joists and mark, usually 16 or 24 inches from where the garage opening will bolt to the ceiling rafter. The fixture works great and I used all the slots to screw in a 2x4. I bought more screws for that. Probably too…

Get the bike out of the way - yes!

This works great and is easy to assemble for anyone who does a lot of DIY work. Personally, I felt uncomfortable using just their hardware in a drywall garage ceiling. I chose some heavier screws that went into the stud. Honestly I just screwed two heavy duty screws into the studs and didn't add anything else (your everything). Don't expect too much from the guide. All in all it was pretty easy and works very well. Pulling out the ladder, marking the cleats took longer than mounting. I had no…

Cons
  • Without automatic

No proper assembly instructions or tips. The instructions consist of 4 pictures on paper without words. TIP: Make sure your hoists are not directly over what they are lifting or there will be friction points that will damage the rope. I discovered it the hard way. My rear lift was right above my back seat and I found it difficult to lift my 65 pound rad bike. After several attempts, the rope broke. There was an unexpected rope friction due to 90 degrees. Luckily I had help so we kept the bike…

Insufficient instructions and materials for proper attachment to beams.

There is no mention that these supports need to be installed in the joists and not just in the garage ceiling. The included screws have plastic anchors that can be used in place of wood in drywall, or possibly concrete if your garage has a concrete ceiling. The wordless instructions show how to attach each bracket with two screws, one edge at a time. The weight of the bike is expected to tighten the supports, leading to failure or damage to the blanket, or likely both. I don't think it would be

Simple, low-tech indoor bike storage solution

I have a shop in a busy suburb. I'm tired of locking my bike from the outside because theft is always possible, even with a decent lock. Also, when the weather is bad, it's nice to leave the bike inside. When I brought my bike in, it was always in the way because I don't have much storage space. Luckily, the store has a 14-foot open ceiling. The exposed ceiling made installation easy, but I had to buy my own mounting hardware (a couple of cheap screws and washers). If I had drywall I wouldn't…
