Beautiful bowl as described. Ours is smooth and free of splinters (as mentioned in previous comments) and the wood texture is fine just like the picture. I treated it with John Taylor Butcher Block Conditioner because we use the peel to store fresh fruit until it's ripe. This way I hope the moisture from the fruit doesn't damage the wood. It's big enough to hold a lot of fruit, which is good, and if we decide to use it as a salad bowl, a large salad fits in, which is enough for a large company. We put the bowl on the kitchen table and it looks so pretty.
