Review on Dorman 604-112 Blend Door Actuator: High-performance HVAC Control for Select Models by Kyle Hoes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

5 stars for Dorman. 1 for GM

Five stars for this part of solving the driver side air vent hot air issue on our 2005 Tahoe Z71 at a fraction of the cost of a mechanic or dealer repair. One star for GM's recessed screw access design, which makes it nearly impossible to maneuver fingers and tools. As others have reported the infamous 3rd cover screw over the center console was a pain to remove and would not come back when reinstalled. My advice is to wrap double sided tape around the socket for a better finger grip (little room for a ratchet other than the initial screw). Then there are two 5.5mm screws holding the drive in place. Yes, not 5 or 6, but 5.5 mm (everyone in the toolbox has a head like that). Finally, on our 2005 Tahoe, the drive is behind a 1-inch plastic channel bar with some clearance to the console floor below. That doesn't exactly make the 5.5mm driver side easy, as seen in most of the DIY silverados on YouTube. . Before installation. Ignition/climate control off/battery disconnected and not reconnected until new actuator is installed and connected. This approach worked for me without any additional calibration. So overall the project is satisfactory. I hope the above observations help. you are preparing for yours.
