My old phone holder wore out and I needed a new one and I decided to try this one that has a gear-locking type thing instead of the sticky suction cup. I really like the gear-lock, as it's easy to switch but holds firm in the locked position.I did have to use the second base plate because the first one I put too close to the corner of my car and couldn't put the lock on that side as I had wanted to. Once I pulled up the first base, I couldn't get it to stick securely anymore. My dash slopes a bit, so that could have added to it. I do like how the base is flexible to more securely attach to uneven surfaces. The second plate is doing well.The phone grip arms will open all the way when the button is pressed. I think I would have preferred a gradual release that stops when the button is released, but it works easily and smoothly. I like the locks on the various knobs that secure the arm and its position. They tighten down well and don't come loose.
