This is the right photo backpack for the Nikon D3000. The older model of backpack doesn't have the banana-shaped camera pocket that this model has. Plenty of room for other things like beach towels, spare diaper lenses or whatever below. Other parts of the camera are easily accessible in the large front pocket. I like the easy access to the camera from the top, which comes in handy when you're quickly crawling around behind the camera. Additional waist buckles come in handy on long hikes as they prevent the pack from moving on your back. We rarely use the tripod mount, although there are straps on the outside of the bag. The word "recycled" in the backpack's name is because Mountainsmith managed to use about 6 recycled plastic water bottles in the manufacture. I can't comment on the quality of the backpack as it looks and functions like a regular backpack you can get from Mountainsmith.
