Great patch panel, does the job at a great price. You really couldn't ask for a simpler, stronger, cuter and drier patch panel. This is backward compatible with Cat5e. In my configuration I have 7 Cat5e lines ending on the back of the patch panel, the Cat6 patch cords go to a 16 port Gigabit Netgear switch. Back then it was too expensive to run Cat6 and I hope that one day it will happen. My setup consists of a Linksys WRT1900ACS in my upstairs office which is where my cable modem comes in and a Cat5e line that powers the area you see in the picture. This basement room is easy to run cables from anywhere in the house, so all connections are needed here. I have 3 TV rooms (2 of which have dual cable routing), a bedroom and a main channel. above, with plenty of room for expansion. I could just as easily install another patch panel (to the right of this picture) on the other side or directly below if that should ever be necessary. The size of this panel offers such flexibility. The color coding on the back for each port is very easy to read, my network uses the T568B standard but it is color coded for A and B. You really need the right punch tool, my 110 punch tool did a great job. Make sure the blade is pointing in the right direction, outward of course. If you hit, the extra copper should just fall off. If not, you didn't do it right and you might have connection issues. Having a properly stamped patch panel and purchased patch cords is much better than making your own cables with RJ45 connectors. When you start talking about gigabit ethernet you need to use all 4 pairs as opposed to fast ethernet which only uses 2 pairs. Much easier to follow the stamping path than making your own crimps. When I upgraded all my hardware to gigabit, I found that I had a couple of RJ45 connectors that were incorrectly crimped. It comes with a mounting bracket which is great for wall mounting or in my case on a built in wooden shelf in my utility room/wine cellar. basement. Space for labeling your end devices (you'll need to match where each wire goes with each connector numbering) is a little small, but that's to be expected given the compactness of this patch panel. I used a thin side marker to mark mine. Proper labeling of connectors and cables makes troubleshooting or child (or wife) separation easier. Extension is easy, just unplug the patch cords and remove the plate from the mounting bracket, punch out any new leads and reinstall them in the bracket. If you are installing a home or small office patch panel, look no further.
