This is an excellent product with the right level of salt. This is an absolute must if you have hermit crabs. Little did we know it was necessary in our aquarium and our crabs went without it for several months. We added it to their sand/substrate and put it in their tank. The substrate should be about 6 to 8 inches deep (or 3 to 4 times the size of the largest crab shell) and the consistency of a sandcastle. To this we added about 1 gallon of salt water. The crabs spent about a week exploring the new sand and basking in the salt water. Then they finally dug a tunnel for their first molt. It probably saved their lives. If hermit crabs can't shed, they can't survive. For more information on this I recommend a website called hermitcrabpatch.com. The information from pet stores and publicly available information is completely wrong and very unhealthy and often fatal for hermit crabs. I highly recommend this product to anyone who has hermit crabs.
