"Why do you even need a Bluetooth speaker on a bike? Why not just put on Bluetooth headphones?β Great question! Two reasons. First, for safety reasons, I don't want anything in my ears that blocks me from hearing surrounding sounds. Second, I'm one of those tinfoil people who don't like the idea of a Bluetooth device sitting next to my brain. I ordered two different Bluetooth speakers for my road bike. one - Aventry, and the other is Zealot. I ordered both to see which one I like better and which one more. I'll be back. I will review both here. SOUND QUALITY WINNER: Avantree The Avantree sounds way better than the Zealot. It produces a rich, round sound and has a good balance of low and high tones. It also seems to get louder than the Zealot, which is good for loud driving. Oddly enough, loud '80s music almost never requires yelling "Links!" 'Cause people can hear you walk :o) Zealot sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. It lacks the full sound spectrum from high to low and sounds "cheap". Avantree has a large speaker area on the long side of the device, which no doubt contributes to the sound quality, while the Zealot only has a small speaker at the end of the device, about 2 inches wide. SIZE/WEIGHT WINNERS: ZealotAvantree is slightly larger than Zealot as you can see in the photos. (A grayish Zealot is handlebar-mounted, while an Avantree is top-tube-mounted.) Zealot is slightly smaller and lighter than Avantree. The Avantree has the weight of a higher end unit but is so heavy that when mounted on the top tube as shown in the photos its weight slowly pulls the mounting bracket down around the tube so that the speaker is on the left side . side of the tube when riding which bothers my left knee. I have to use my hand and push/pull back to the upright position about every 15 minutes or so, which annoys me. I will try to tighten the silicone mounting straps but I don't expect that they will become stronger than now. As a workaround, I could just remove the Avantree mounting bracket from the top tube and slip the speaker into one of my existing white water bottle cases (see image), but that leaves me with just one water bottle and a long ride. it is not a bueno. That single flaw may have made me return this great sounding speaker. MULTIFUNCTIONAL WINNER: Zealots. One advantage the Zealot has over the Avantree is that the Zealot offers versatility while the Avantree is just a speaker. The Zealot acts as a headlight, which is a nice touch considering I don't have a lot of room on my handlebars. The fact that it performs two important functions, very pleasant. Plus, it also acts as a backup charger for your phone when needed. I don't know how well it charges your device, of course, but it offers that functionality. CHARGING WINNER: Tie! Avantree features a micro-USB charging port, as well as an Aux (mini-plug) option. I believe Zealot has the same connectors. Both charge quickly when plugged into the wall. In terms of battery life they seem to be similar so far, but to be honest I haven't let any of them run for more than two hours at a time. EASY TO USE WINNER: Tie! Bluetooth is very easy to connect to both speakers. The controls are few and simple. Both are encased in silicone, but Avantree says it's "waterproof" and Zealot says it's "
