There is a strong smell of the material when opened, so I opened it and let it air out for about a week. Now I see Clementine just hanging out there. I don't think she realizes it's a stretcher and thinks it's just another bed. I like it because her last porter (hard case) she will only be around when she is forced to visit the vet or take a long drive somewhere. I didn't use it for the vet or "travelling" like that, but I put her in there to move from one room to another while the house was occupied. It's a soft bottom so if you pick it up it will sink. The handle does not dig into your hand as it is made of soft leather. I insert the shell from the top to allow the stretcher to hold its shape while I work with the cat. The good thing is that it opens at both ends (only 3 entry points). I leave the stretcher outside so Clementine can come whenever she wants. From time to time I close the open door and turn it over to keep the stretcher in shape. The edge of the zipper seems to be reinforced so that the "door" stays closed very well and opens a little, but stays upright. It shows better in the photo than I can describe. The water bowl looked really cool, but I haven't used it yet. I let the air out and then washed out. When I end up using it, I also wash it before use. Here, too, the material smells very strongly when opened. The mat inside is very soft and has a zipper so the cover is washable. The whole thing can be removed but there is velcro in the middle to keep the mat in place. The rough side is on the bottom of the carrier, so it cannot be used without a backing. I wish the rough side of the velcro was on the bottom of the mat so it would just be an odd soft spot to put the mat on when taking it off. Does he have a platform? At the bottom of the rug (I think to protect against leakage). Mollusk really like lying on this bed. She is not afraid when approaching her. Can easily be combined with other items like luggage if that applies to you.
