The hair stays in place and the elastic bands are strong enough. So far I haven't had a broken band when tying my toddler's hair, even though I've tied it quite tightly. It's equally frustrating and annoying when the tape snaps in the middle of a braid. Pooh. A wide range of colors is available, including neutral colors like black and beige. My toddler tends to pull her hair out in daycare during the day and they get lost so I know one day they will all be gone. If this happens I plan to purchase that particular item again.
